Terms & Conditions

This document outlines the Terms and Conditions for all scholarships, bursaries and awards, administered by the Central Valley Scholars. All scholarships, bursaries and awards will be referred to as ‘scholarships’ herein. By submitting an application for our scholarships, you are agreeing to these terms and conditions.

You must read these Terms and Conditions in their entirety before you accept your scholarship offer. When you accept your scholarship you are agreeing to and accepting these Terms and Conditions and agree to the requirements and conditions of your scholarship.

​

Students in receipt of scholarship may also be required to sign an individual scholarship agreement. Students must meet all conditions as outlined in the agreement.

​

Communication

​

All correspondence during the application process will be sent to the applicant’s primary email address submitted in the scholarship application form, with the option of telephone communication, based on Central Valley Scholars decision.

 

It is the responsibility of the scholarship recipient to inform the Central Valley Scholars of any changes to their email, postal or residential address. It is also the responsibility of the scholarship recipient to inform Central Valley Scholars if they change their place of school / tertiary institute during the course of their scholarship.

Any changes to the applicants email address, postal or residential address without notice, after submission of application and without necessary cause, may result in cancelation of their application.

​

Accepting Your Scholarship

​

Successful scholarship applicants will receive an email detailing the scholarship benefits and payment timing. If you do not wish to accept a scholarship that you have been offered, you should advise us immediately in writing.

​

Your scholarships details may be passed on to donors or partner organization (where applicable). This also includes the Undocumented and LGBTQIA+ Scholarship. If you do not wish for your details to be passed on, you must advise the Central Valley Scholars in writing.

​

Central Valley Scholars reserves the right to change the title of the scholarship awarded depending on funding contributions from external parties. If the funding level or eligibility changes, Central Valley Scholars will advise the recipient before changing any details but name changes can occur without notice.

​

Any successful applicant may be required to show proof that they are enrolled in, or have been accepted to, an accredited university or college course, commencing studies for the fall semester/quarter 2023.

​

Successful scholarship applicants must reply either accepting or rejecting this offer within 7 days of receipt.

 

Failure to respond within this 7-day period may result in the scholarship offer being withdrawn and reassigned. You must accept your scholarship offer by the due date, as instructed in your offer email, to be eligible to receive payment.

​

How Your Scholarship Is Paid

​

Central Valley Scholars will make payment of the funds in one single installment, though we reserve the right to make payment in multiple installments, as we see fit.

​

The total value of the scholarship offered will be outlined in the official offer email. We reserve the right to offer any value of funds, up to the value of $6,000.

​

The scholarship funds can be paid into your nominated bank account, or by other means, to be discussed between Central Valley Scholars and you the applicant. Central Valley Scholars reserves the right to make final decision on how payment is made, and can withdraw the offer of scholarship if an amicable and realistic payment process cannot be reached.

​

Scholarships are awarded based on established eligibility criteria. You must meet the eligibility requirements to receive your scholarship payment. The eligibility requirements for each scholarship are outlined on our eligibility page of each scholarship application.

​

You may be permitted to hold more than one scholarship. However, please note that a maximum of two scholarships may be awarded per scholarship applicant. 

​

Technology and Software

​

If you have also been provided with technical equipment as part of your scholarship, Central Valley Scholars does not offer any warranty period and accepts no liability for any loss or damage of the equipment.

 

Eligibility

 

All scholarships are awarded on the basis that you will maintain an enrolled status at a university or full-time enrollment in your approved course of community college or vocational education. Your scholarship may be terminated if your enrollment status changes, for example if you discontinue your school studies or university course.

 

To retain your scholarship you must also:

 

  • be enrolled at a community college, vocational school, or undergraduate university during the fall semester/quarter of 2023.

  • have graduated from a high school, continuation school, or G.E.D school in the San Joaquin Valley by August 31st, 2023.

  • at a minimum, maintain your attendance and academic performance as at the time of your application, and immediately notify Central Valley Scholars of any extenuating circumstances that may prevent you doing so;

  • adhere to the academic and administrative policies of the school and/or education institution at which you are enrolled;

  • maintain your residency and contact status and advise Central Valley Scholars within seven days if you change your residency and/or contact status;

  • meet any additional criteria outlines in your letter of offer; and

  • provide confirmation of your circumstances during the term of the scholarship if requested by Central Valley Scholars.

Please note that a maximum of two scholarships may be awarded per scholarship applicant and only two students will be selected for more than one scholarship. 

 

Scholarship Termination

​

Central Valley Scholars may terminate your scholarship if you have:

​

  • discontinued enrollment at an undergraduate university, community college or vocational school

  • been a previous recipient of a Central Valley Scholars scholarship

  • already completed a bachelor's degree

  • failed to meet the eligibility requirements of your scholarship;

  • failed to meet the scholarships terms and conditions;

  • an amicable and realistic payment process cannot be reached

  • failed to accept the scholarship offer within 7 days

  • failed to maintain satisfactory academic progress;

  • been made an incorrect scholarship offer as determined by the Central Valley Scholars at its sole discretion; and/or

  • have provided incorrect, false or misleading information or withheld relevant information on your scholarship application or after receiving a scholarship offer

Providing false or misleading information is an offense. If Central Valley Scholars knows or has reason to believe that you have provided false or misleading information, Central Valley Scholars may reassess your entitlement to the scholarship and you will be liable to re-pay to Central Valley Scholars the total sum of any payments incorrectly made to you. If your scholarship is terminated, you will not receive any further payments.

Repayment Of Your Scholarship

​

You will need to repay the scholarship if:

​

  • the payment is made to you in error or you have been overpaid;

  • your scholarship is terminated

  • you do not meet the conditions of the scholarship or are deemed to be ineligible for the scholarship; and/or

  • you have been made a scholarship offer in error

​

In the event that you are required to repay your scholarship, you must do so within 4 weeks of receiving the notification.

​

How This Scholarship Affects Your Taxes

​

Central Valley Scholars is not responsible for and cannot provide you with financial advice on taxation matters. The information provided here is of a general nature only and does not take into account your individual financial circumstances. In most cases, if you are enrolled as a full-time student, your scholarship payment may not be taxed.

 

Central Valley Scholars is not liable for the payment of any tax or any other obligations you may incur as a result of accepting a scholarship from us. You must seek appropriate financial advice prior to accepting a scholarship.

Publicity and Promotion

​

If you are offered a scholarship, your details including name, school, photograph, video and scholarship awarded may be passed on to media and used by the Central Valley Scholars and/or partner organizations for promotional purposes, including but not limited to the Central Valley Scholars’s:

​

  • website

  • social media channels

  • print and electronic media

​

If you do not wish for your details to be passed on to media or used for promotional purposes, you must notify the Central Valley Scholars in writing.

​

If you attend events held by the Central Valley Scholars, photos and videos of you at the event (along with your name, school and scholarship), may be used for promotional purposes by the Central Valley Scholars and/or our partner organizations, including but not limited to the Central Valley Scholars website, social media channels, print and electronic media.

 

It is agreed that the use of these photographs and videos shall in no way be used in any other forum other than official Central Valley Scholars business. The scholarship recipient also waives the right to inspect or approve the finished product, the advertising copy or other matter that may be used in connection therewith or the use to which is may be applied. If you do not wish for photographs and videos of you to be used in this way, you must notify the Central Valley Scholars in writing.

Media Consent

 

Consent is sought for use of photographic/video/audio recording made of the student during Central Valley Scholars events. Permission is being requested to publish, reproduce and communicate images and / or recording of the student on:

​

  • The website and other promotional material related to the Central Valley Scholars;

  • In related media and other locations to promote the awards;

  • On websites/promotional material of event sponsor;

​

This consent is for an indefinite period of time. Consent is also sought to publish the name and school of the student. We may also provide media with details of your scholarship either before or after events. With reference to the above, the student grants permission to use, reproduce, distribute, communicate to the public, publish, publicly display, modify, translate, adapt, upload, download in any form or manner and/or permission to incorporate this material into other materials or works in any format or medium for any non-commercial purpose and the right to sublicense those rights for noncommercial purpose. The student can withdraw their consent at any time but must do so in writing or by email to contact@centralvalleyscholars.org.

Please note, in order to be selected for the Inspire Award, the student must consent to having their story and image shared publicly through various social channels including, but not limited to; video documentary, photoshoot, article, and outside press releases. There are no exceptions to this rule. 

​

Liability Waiver

​

In accepting a scholarship from the Central Valley Scholars, you agree to WAIVE, RELEASE, AND DISCHARGE the Central Valley Scholars, its officers, associates and partner organizations from any and all liability, including but not limited to, any liability arising from the negligence or fault of the entities or persons released, for death, disability, personal injury, property damage, property theft, or actions of any kind which may occur to you during or after the scholarship period, including during or after any travel undertaken as part of the scholarship.

 

Please note, if you are under 18 years of age, it is understood that your parent or guardian has read and agreed to the Scholarship Terms and Conditions on your behalf.

​

The Central Valley Scholars reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions for commencing and continuing scholarship holders.
